Hi! I’m so glad you found me! I am Jomel Gregorio visual storyteller and artist at heart, based in Manila, Philippines. I have been in the industry for 10 wonderful years now, and I always feel grateful for becoming a good friend to my clients and their families after each event.
I started shooting weddings in 2006 and in many ways, I was at the right time and the right place when clients started looking for alternative wedding photographers.
To further hone my skills, I also shoot for local travel magazine. I am also a part-time Professional Photography Instructor II at De La Salle-College of St. Benilde’s School of Design & Arts. For me, teaching is the best way to learn. I’ve been sharing my knowledge since I started my wedding photography business. I believe blessings are meant to be shared to the community.
Painting has been my hobby since my adolescent years, and I am working my way to make it as a career in the future, because I do not see myself shooting weddings in the next 15 years. Painting has been an act of meditation for me, stimulating my creativity to keep me balanced. Surprisingly, people have been starting to buy my art, and so I decided to create a social media account and website (www.jomelgregorioart.com) exclusively for my paintings and fine art photographs so people around the world can easily see and acquire my original artworks online.
It is always been my passion to explore places, meet new people and learn from them, appreciate the beauty of life, and gain wisdom from it. These are the things that inspire me as a visual artist. Weddings are a perfect match for me, in this sense, for the passion I have has brought me to wonderful locations in the US, CANADA, AUSTRALIA, SINGAPORE, HONG KONG, MALAYSIA,THAILAND and more.
Additionally, reading books or online materials always keep me on track and wanting to discover more, get inspired and see things differently.
The trust with which people invite me into to their stories and to re-tell those stories through my images fascinates me the most. Nothing makes me feel more honored and purposely driven than to become a witness and an instrument in immortalizing once-in-a-lifetime moments through images that are worth hanging and treasuring.
Photography styles are influenced by different things: fashion, documentary, fine art, travel experiences, street photography, classic portraits, creative photography, paintings, movies, and so on. My photography work is unique for each client. I use the environment as my studio with the use of good ambient lighting, creating cinematic images. I want viewers to feel as though they were there and able to refresh the memory like a sort of simulation.
When it comes to my portraiture, I just try to work with the present surroundings and go with my gut feeling, matched with my expertise. I do not direct couples to pose that much. I direct my couple in a way that they would be comfortable to interact in front of me.
I try to stay true to what drives me and shoot what I am interested in telling.
Simplicity. Capture real moments with style. Let images speaks for itself.
I use Canon professional bodies. My lenses are from ultra-wide to telephoto. I prefer using prime lenses most of the time because I can move freely and save more energy, enabling me to focus more on visual creativity and capturing fleeting moments. I keep my setup simple, and this works for me in terms of delivering more than my clients’ expectations. I use ambient light as much as possible because of the natural feel and visual emotion it evokes in my images. I use MacBook Pro laptops and iMac for my layout design and batch image editing. I have reliable storage drives, of course, for archiving.
I do all the post-production work and apply a very light editing. I use Photoshop to enhance a good image, not to repair images. During shoots, I always try to do it right the first time with my camera. All the essential features I need to produce the kind of images I want at any given moment can be found in my camera.
I am not a fan of HDR, infrared and heavy post-processing. I simply want the natural beauty of my images to be appreciated at its best. There are a lot of wedding images that are over-rated and heavily edited to the point of losing the meaning and the purpose of doing wedding photography. Rest assured my work output is nothing of that kind.
I charge premium on my photography service and less on my custom printing. I want to encourage my clients to indulge in printing their precious moments. We have no assurance how long social media or storage device would be reliable.
